Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) – 1981

Member States (9)

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Montserrat
  • St. Kitts and Nevis
  • St. Lucia
  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Anguilla
  • The British Virgin Islands

Shared Services

  • Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority (ECCA) – Managed the Eastern Caribbean dollar and maintained monetary stability (later replaced by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank).
  • Eastern Caribbean Common Market (ECCM) – Facilitated free trade and economic integration among member states.
  • West Indies Associated States Supreme Court – Provided a shared judicial system, now called the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
  • Eastern Caribbean Tourism Association (ECTA) – Promoted the region collectively as a tourist destination.

Aims of the OECS

  • Strengthen cooperation among member states at regional and international levels.
  • Promote unity and solidarity while defending the sovereignty and independence of members.
  • Advance economic integration through the Eastern Caribbean Common Market.
  • Coordinate joint overseas representation to achieve shared foreign policy objectives.
