What is a Family ?
A family is a group of individuals who are related by blood, living under the same roof, supporting and maintaining each other socially, economically and emotionally.
Family Types
Extended Family - composed of 2 or more generations. but including aunts, uncles or cousins living under the same roof.
Nuclear Family - Family- their child/children. A family including both parents and
Single Parent - Including one parent and his/her child/children.
Reconstituted - Mader up of 2 adults and their children from previous relationships.
Joint Family Household - A type of extended family in which married children bring their families to live together with their parents.
Other Family Types
Patriarchal Family - family arrangement in which authority lies with the father.
Matriarchal Family - family arrangement in which authority lies with the mother.
Egalitarian Family - family arrangement in which authority is shared between the mother and father.
Matrifocal Family - a family unit which is headed by a mother and lacks a permanent father for an extended period of time.
Patrifocal Family - a family unit which is headed by a father and lacks a mother for an extended period of time.
Definitions
Household - A household is a group of people living together in a shared space who combine or share their income, as demonstrated by their regular practice of eating meals together.
Kinship - family relationship.
Sibling - a brother or sister.
Family Tree - a diagram used to portray the relationships among family members.
Matrilineal - family line of descent traced through the female.
Patrilineal - family line of descent traced through the male line.
Bilineal - line of descent traced through both lines.
Procreation - having children (reproduction)
Consanguine - related by blood. This is also your kinship.
Conjugal - related by marriage or adoption.
Breadwinner - the member(s) of the family who provides financial support for the family.
