Aims of CARIFTA
- Promote economic and social development in the region through free trade among member states.
- LID Goal – Liberalize, Increase, and Diversify regional trade.
- Remove customs duties, taxes, and licensing restrictions that hindered trade between territories.
Achievements
- Fostered functional cooperation beyond economics, in areas such as education, legal affairs, shipping, air transportation, and public health.
- Opened the region to free trade, removing many trade barriers.
- Provided access to larger markets, boosting trade volume and economic growth.
- Introduced the CARIFTA Games, encouraging regional unity through sports.
- Established CARIFESTA, an annual festival celebrating Caribbean culture, arts, and products, fostering regional pride.
- Created the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to promote and finance economic integration projects.
