Mirage

A phenomenon found in nature where the refraction of light causes the creation of an altered representation of far-off objects or the sky.

Mirages occur in situations where the surface of the ground becomes intensely heated, while the surrounding air remains relatively cool. The elevated temperature of the ground heats up the air directly above it. Consequently, as light passes from the colder air onto the heated air layer, it undergoes refraction, resulting in a bending effect. This refraction occurs specifically in a U-shaped manner due to the presence of a layer of exceptionally warm air in close proximity to the ground.
