-To form negatives in French, surround the verb with ne and pas.
J’aime le film. I like the film
Je n’aime pas le film. I don’t like the film.
-ne...pas are not the only ones
Ne...jamais – never Ne...plus – no longer Ne...personne – no one Ne...que – only Ne...rien – nothing
Je ne le fais jamais. I never do it.
Elles ne fument plus. They no longer smoke.
Personne ne vous aime. No one likes you.
Tu n’as que 20 euros. You only have 20 euros.
Je ne te dis rien. I’m telling you nothing.
-In compound tenses, it surrounds the auxiliary.
Je ne suis pas allé à la fête. I did not go to the party.
